Bodhi Sykora
Bodhi grew up in Indonesia, as a daughter of a Tsjech father and a Dutch mother. From an early age she was surrounded by many cultures , languages and the music of many cultures.
She inherited her passion for music from her grandfather who was a professional cello player.
After Highschool she went to University of Utrecht and became a Doctorandus in Pedagogy
But the love for music was always present ,so after graduation she went to the Hilversum Conservatory and studied jazzvocals.
There she met guitarist Marco Antonio and has since then been performing with him, playing South American repertoire.
This resulted in her current band Carinhoso.
Her latest cd Falar de Amor, a tribute to Musica Popular Do Brazil, has just been released.
In the past she has been singing in various other musical projects and bands:
– Shooting Star, a vocal group, accompanied by a jazz trio performing the repertoire of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross,the Pointer Sisters ( their old jazz repertoire) and original compositions;
– The Lost Wandering Jazz and Blues Band from New York city, with whom she toured frequently through Europe;
– The rock and roll formation Pink Pettycoat;
– The Dutch Palladium Orchesta, who won the jury prize as well as the audience prize at the Breda Jazzfestival and toured through Holland, Germany and France.
Apart from her performing career, she has been teaching at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Jazz and Pop Department since 1991.
